Molluscum is a very common skin condition. It commonly affects children but sometimes adults can get it too. It is caused by a small virus that affects localized areas of the skin causing small white bumps. These can look like warts or pimples but are in fact a result of a localized accumulation of the molluscum virus. Molluscum can be spread between people and is most commonly spread in either swimming pools or by skin-to-skin contact.

The condition is harmless although many patients choose to have treatment in order improve the appearance. Even without treatment, this condition does tend to go away on its own but can take months or years. There are a variety of treatment options available:

• Over-the-counter topical products
• Prescription topical products
• In office medical procedure

However, even without treatment the problem can go away on its own but it can be quite slow and sometimes take months or years.
