Acne or Rosacea?

Acne or Rosacea?

Dr. Mariah Giberson talks Rosacea vs. Acne!

Rosacea and acne can easily be confused and sometimes overlap. A board certified dermatologist can help make the right diagnosis. Both cause redness, bumps and pustules on the face.

Here are some characterists of Rosacea:

  • Rosacea tends to present later in life than acne
  • Many patients have ethnic roots in the British Isles
  • Rosacea is characterized by flushing, which  can be worsened by exercise, spicy hot foods, weather and alcohol
Acne usually presents in adolescence with whiteheads, blackheads and nodules. It can also effect the shoulders, back and chest.

Some treatments overlap but others are more specific to each condition. Our team of certified dermatologists can help pick a customized plan that works for you and your skin type.
